For over 30 years, our number one priority has always been animal welfare. At Jetpets, we have a strict weather policy in place for all pets when travelling. When this occurs, we will be in contact to re-schedule the pet’s flight for another date and time.
Aside from the heat, if there is severe rain or storms, your pet travel consultant will be in contact with you to change your pet’s travel itinerary. If the new flight time requires your pet to travel on an alternate day, we can arrange boarding if required. Your pet’s safety, comfort and welfare is our number one priority.
Our Auckland Pet Transit Lounge offers the ideal solution for travellers requiring flexible flight or travel arrangements. Purpose-built with animal welfare as our number one priority, the facility provides a safe, comfortable, and pet-friendly environment for your pet while in our care. Conveniently located just a short drive from Auckland Airport, the Transit Lounge is staffed by a dedicated team of qualified Pet Handlers who care for your pet before and after their journey.
Our team ensures that pets remain well-hydrated and, where time permits, are taken for a short walk prior to their flight to help them relax and prepare for travel in comfort.
For pets travelling on early morning or late-night flights, the Transit Lounge is an ideal option, allowing our team to check them in on time with minimal disruption. Additionally, pets requiring veterinary health clearance from our partnering vets, or a comfort stop before connecting to another flight, are welcome to stay overnight in our dedicated on-site accommodation and boarding facility. This allows your pet to rest, stretch their legs, and enjoy a calm environment before continuing their journey.
In the case your pet is travelling internationally anywhere other than Australia, your pet will be required to complete their final Veterinary clearance at the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) facility 5 minutes from our Auckland Transit Lounge. Your pet will be accompanied by one of our experienced Pet Handlers whilst an MPI Veterinarian completes the overall health check and issues the official Health Certificate. Once this appointment has been completed, our Pet Handlers will bring your furbaby back to the transit lounge where they can relax and get cared for as they wait for their flight.
Our partnering veterinarians operate from the Jetpets Transit Lounge, Monday through Thursday, and are responsible for completing all necessary veterinary procedures required for pet travel to Australia, including the issuance of official export certificates. They also conduct thorough health checks to ensure all pets are fit, safe, and healthy for travel. Should you have any concerns regarding your pet’s health, our veterinarians are available to provide guidance and advice on how best to prepare your pet for their journey.
By having our veterinary partners based at the Transit Lounge, we eliminate the need for multiple visits to external veterinary clinics, creating a more seamless and stress-free experience for both pets and their owners. Whether you’re arranging domestic pet transport within New Zealand or international pet travel from New Zealand, you can trust Jetpets’ partnering veterinarians to provide the highest standard of care for your beloved companion.
At Jetpets, we have implemented a comprehensive internal risk assessment policy to ensure that animal welfare remains our highest priority in all aspects of our operations. Due to the specific health considerations associated with brachycephalic (snub-nosed/flat-faced) breeds, many airlines impose restrictions on their transport. In alignment with these guidelines, Jetpets also enforces strict internal protocols, including adherence to extreme weather policies and the use of correctly sized, airline-approved travel crates to safeguard these breeds during transit.
At present, Jetpets does not transport ‘high-risk’ brachycephalic breeds, which include all Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boston Terriers.
We strongly recommend consulting with your Pet Travel Consultant to confirm which destinations and airlines will permit travel for brachycephalic pets, as well as to understand any specific regulations or conditions that must be met.
One of the most critical aspects of ensuring your pet’s welfare and comfort during transit is selecting an appropriately sized travel crate. The crate must allow your pet to sit, stand, and turn around comfortably, and must also comply with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) guidelines for the safe and secure transportation of animals.
Our experienced Pet Travel team is extensively trained in selecting airline-approved travel crates that best meet the individual needs of your pet. We understand that every animal is unique, and we are committed to providing a tailored solution to ensure your pet travels safely and comfortably.
We frequently encounter situations where pet owners receive incorrect advice regarding travel crate sizing, which can lead to costly consequences—most notably, the refusal of the airline to transport pets in crates that do not meet the required standards. In some cases, significantly lower quotes from other providers have been linked to the use of undersized crates that fail to allow pets to sit, stand, and turn around comfortably, compromising their welfare and safety.
To avoid such issues, it is essential to accurately measure your pet before selecting a crate, and to discuss with one of our Pet Travel Consultants, who can guide you through the crate selection process and ensure compliance with airline and welfare regulations.

We can also work with you to give you some guidance and information to help your pet become accustomed to their travel crate if they are a nervous flyer or are travelling overseas on a longer haul flight.
Our New Zealand team possesses extensive expertise in animal behaviour and handling techniques. With over 30 years of experience, we have developed a customised Learning Management System through which our Pet Handlers receive ongoing, competency-based training. This forms a key part of our commitment to ensuring the highest standards of care for your beloved pets while they are in our care.
Our team is composed of dedicated professionals who are passionate about animal welfare. Each member is well-versed in our comprehensive welfare policies, standard operating procedures, and care initiatives—designed to ensure that your pets are always safe, comfortable, and well looked after.
We are proud to be the only Pet Transport company in the Asia Pacific region recognised as a “Centre of Excellence” for Live Animal Transport by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This prestigious accreditation reflects our rigorous training programs, compliance standards, quality systems, and operational procedures, giving you the assurance that your pet will receive exceptional care when travelling with Jetpets.
In some cases, both Jetpets and airlines may require a fit to fly certificate from your own vet to confirm that your pet is fit and healthy to be transported via air travel. The certificate may be required due to the age or breed of your pet and is ultimately designed to ensure that your pets’ welfare is the first consideration prior to travel.
The fit to fly certificate verifies that your pet is in good health and any known medical conditions are mentioned, including any current medication your pet is on. The information within this fit to fly then helps us plan the safest routing for your pet depending on their needs. Your Jetpets Pet Travel Consultant will advise you at the time of quotation or booking if you require this for your pet’s travel.
