Moving your Pet across New Zealand can be straightforward if you are well prepared! Our highly qualified Jetpets team will generally be able to assist you with short notice, as long as your pet is fit, healthy and able to travel. We would recommend a minimum of four business days’ notice to arrange your pet transport.
The most important aspect to consider when preparing for any travel is your pet’s current health status. It is also highly recommended for all dogs and cats to be up to date with their vaccinations, and is a requirement if your pet needs boarding/accommodation before or after their journey.
It is not mandatory for pets to be vaccinated when travelling within New Zealand. Treatments such as F3 for cats and C5, Kennel Cough and potentially a Leptospirosis vaccine for Dogs are required for pets to gain entry into a pet accommodation/boarding facility, and depending on your destination, flea and tick treatments may also be recommended by your local veterinarian.
We understand that pets are part of the family and you may be concerned about their welfare during their transportation. That’s why Jetpets can send updates to you depending on your pets personalised travel itinerary.
The types of Pet Updates you can expect is dependent on your pet’s individual travel itinerary and may be sent via SMS and/or email. These updates may include:
*Pet travel updates are applicable when the pet is travelling via a Jetpets transit lounge location, and where the itinerary is for a transit lounge or door-to-door service. Before you know it, your beloved pet will be back for lots of cuddles and kisses, in your arms again, ready to start their new adventure with you wherever you may be!
Please speak with your Jetpets Pet Travel Consultant upon booking your pets travel so they can advise of the Pet Updates you will receive.
Jetpets partners with a range of Pet Accommodation Facilities throughout New Zealand. We’ll help you choose the most suitable option based on your pet’s individual needs and preferences. It’s important to consider whether the stay will be short- or long-term, as this can influence the best location in line with your budget and requirements.
Depending on the location, many facilities offer a variety of boarding packages for you to choose from. Please note that all dogs and cats must be up to date with their vaccinations—C5, Kennel Cough and possibly the Leptospirosis vaccine for dogs and F3 for cats—to be eligible for boarding. If you have any questions or concerns about vaccination requirements, your Jetpets Pet Travel Consultant will be happy to assist
Jetpets provides a designated Transit Lounge in Auckland to keep your pets relaxed, and to offer them some time out of the crate when they are on their way to and from their destination. Our state of the art facilities allow travelling pets (and their fur-parents) to visit when they are checking in for travel, or visiting our vets for any treatments and health checks required for their travel.
Our Transit Lounge can accommodate overnight stays where pets have an early morning flight or late arrival from their departure location. Our facilities are air conditioned, climate controlled and ideal for clients to collect and drop off their pets.
Unfortunately, airlines do have delays and cancelations for multiple reasons—the most common being weather. Jetpets operate 24/7 and will not leave your furbaby stranded when flights are delayed or cancelled
Where delays and cancelations occur, our Jetpets Pet Handlers will ensure your pet is collected from the airport and safely looked after back at the Jetpets Transit Lounge. Our team will arrange another flight or transport your furbaby back to the airport where there is an extended delay (ie: 3 hours or more).
Jetpets have been safely transporting pets for over 30 years and have proven processes and policies in place to ensure the safe transport of pets. Our heat policy ensures that your furbaby will not be exposed to any prolonged periods of heat during their travel.
Our policy stipulates where there are extreme hot temperatures forecast, pets must be in the air by 9am. Speak to our pet travel consultants to discuss your specific requirements. In making any changes to your pet’s itinerary, their safety, comfort and welfare is our number one priority.
This service has been designed for those travellers that are happy to arrange the drop off and collection of their pets to and from the airport and widely used for those clients travelling with their pets. Our team will work with you to arrange your pets’ flights that best suit your travel plans.
It’s uncommon for pets to become unwell while in our care during travel. However, in the unlikely event that this occurs, our trained pet handlers will promptly inform you of any concerns. We will then work closely with you to coordinate a medical examination with your preferred veterinarian, depending on the situation.
As every pet is unique, we would assess this on a case-by-case situation and make the decision that is in the best interest of the pets. There are specific guidelines to follow set out by the Live Animal Regulations when it comes to multiple pets in the same crate. This is something you can discuss with one of our pet travel consultants at time of quoting.
